UpToDate is a long-standing, trusted medical reference with deep, explanatory content. Users repeatedly report major instability: freezing/crashing during searches or when opening articles, persistent offline-content issues after updates, and compatibility/login problems for institutional users. Despite loyalty and strong content, the app’s usability is severely hampered by these bugs and access barriers.

Cons

App frequently freezes or crashes during searches and when tapping article titles, making it unusable.
Offline content feature stops working or shows a perpetual spinning wheel, especially after updates.
Update and iOS compatibility issues block use on devices that can't update to the latest iOS.
Institutional sign-in and access issues (e.g., OpenAthens login or needing PC login every few months).

Recent reviews

Paying $500 per year for a resource that is now not working on my phone. Wants me to download all content when I do not need all content on my phone. Want to use the resource quickly and instead I am forced to search for a fix and try multiple solutions that solve nothing and waste more of my time. I love UpToDate and use it frequently. Have been paying yearly since 2017 and it's only gotten more expensive each year. Fix the app already!!!

This app is pure trash now. You want me to download what I am looking for in offline use? Nope. I just want to look up what I need quick. The Ai is trash- forcing me to consent to it ? Make an opt out option. I won’t opt in to it. I won’t be renewing. Will be be spending my thousand+ elsewhere.
