User Reviews

User reviews consistently praise the PTV app for navigation usefulness and overall efficiency, noting it helps travelers move around Victoria and that updates add features. The most frequent complaints focus on onboarding and usage barriers for non-Australians: needing an Australian phone number/address, sign-up/login errors, and a complex top-up flow tied to a physical Myki card with little wallet integration. Additional recurring issues include lack of iOS NFC/tap-to-pay support, plus stability problems and occasional data inaccuracies after updates. Addressing onboarding, payments, and reliability would improve the app significantly.
Pros
  • Useful for general travel/navigation; provides routes and times.
  • Helps you get around Melbourne and Victoria; broad coverage.
  • Efficient and useful compared to similar travel apps.
  • Handy for tourists; useful for planning and navigation when visiting.
  • Recent updates add useful features.
Cons
  • Requires an Australian phone number and address to sign up; not usable for international travelers.
  • Frequent sign-up/login errors and inability to create an account; poor onboarding experience.
  • Top-up/payments flow is cumbersome; relies on a physical Myki card; not tourist-friendly; no easy wallet integration.
  • No NFC tap-to-ride support on iOS; Apple devices can't tap to pay or tap on/off; Android-only.
  • Stability issues and data problems after updates; crashes, UI glitches, and occasional inaccurate route information.

Bad design. Bad system. Bad people. Considering how wealthy this country is with all of the mining, public transportation should be free. They seem to exclusively hire racist/hateful inspectors. What a stupid job that shouldn’t exist. Crazy how they kill people and get away with it, just for not touching on.

Wasted time as a tourist with this app.

Compared to public transport systems in NSW and QLD, the VIC public transportation system is ridiculous and much too complicated than it should be. Rides are so expensive! The most expensive in the country! The Myki cards are a waste of plastic. If I can scan the Myki card with my phone, why can’t I scan my phone to pay on the bus/tram. The app is terrible, always glitching out, won’t let me create an account. Won’t scan the Myki card anymore. Overall so terrible and frustrating!!
