User Reviews

Pixelogic is praised for consistent daily puzzles and strong puzzle quality, with a focused interface and ongoing updates. However, many reviews clash with a paid-model shift (unlimited content replaced by daily limits), loss of history, intrusive Game Center prompts, reliability bugs, and new ads. Overall, fans value the core puzzle experience but dislike monetization changes and reliability friction that accompany recent updates.
Pros
  • Daily puzzles with a long track record of new content and updates, keeping players engaged for years.
  • High-quality, well-designed nonogram/picross-style puzzles that many players consider among the best in the genre.
  • Clean, focused interface that emphasizes the puzzle experience without unnecessary clutter.
  • Active development with regular improvements and new content.
  • Long-standing presence on iPad, providing reliable, consistent gameplay that players depend on.
Cons
  • Shift from unlimited/free access to paid plans and daily limits, seen as paywalling by longtime users.
  • Loss of progress/history after updates and difficulties restoring purchases or past puzzles.
  • Game Center prompts/notifications can be intrusive and are hard to disable for some players.
  • Bugs and reliability issues (e.g., app won’t open, puzzles miscounted) reported by users.
  • Introduction of ads or ad-supported elements in the latest version, perceived as monetization creep.

These puzzles are great for practicing logical reasoning, while being enjoyable enough to have successfully replaced most of my social media with something better for my brain and mental health! This is one of the only apps I have ever been willing to pay for the premium version of, and it has been 100% worth it. I love the clean design and user interface. The developers also added soundtracks a few months ago and they’re the perfect soothing accompaniment to the game!

I would give this app 5 stars if the daily free play increased to 3. There are 2 dailies, a weekly, and a huge archive. The one time purchase packs are quite a bit for 20ish puzzles each. $1 would be more reasonable. The previous version (way back when) had a “+” version you could get for a one time purchase and included the entire archive. I would gladly pay about $5 to have permanent full access to even the previous 30 days of archive without limited daily “free plays”. Or a couple bucks ONE TIME to increase the daily plays to 5 or so. There are plenty of ways to get people to support a quality game like this one without a subscription. $15 a year is not unreasonable, but I do not like to support subscriptions if I can avoid it. I’d rather pay $15 for a year’s worth of previous archive that I can access and play at my own pace.

In engineering we call this the keep it simple principle. This is a perfect example of being just complicated enough without being bloated
