User Reviews

Users praise Epicurious for its large, magazine-backed recipe library and helpful recipe reviews, but repeatedly complain about paywalls, unstable performance, and weak search/organization features. Login/account issues and unreliable saved recipes further detract from usability. The core recipe content is valued, but access and app reliability problems dominate the feedback.
Pros
  • Large library of recipes from top cooking magazines (e.g., Bon Appétit).
  • Helpful user reviews and modification notes for recipes.
  • Subscribed users can unlock a broad set of recipes and content.
  • Overall, high-quality recipe content that many users praise.
Cons
  • Paywall and subscription requirements lock most recipes behind a paid tier.
  • Frequent stability and performance problems, including crashes, freezing, and apps that won’t load or open.
  • Cumbersome search, limited filtering, and poor organization (no folders, no good saved-search options).
  • Difficult account management and cancellation; login issues with Condé Nast/Bon Appétit integration.
  • Saved recipes and favorites are unreliable or hard to manage (missing items, saved-by-date organization).

Whenever I go into the app, it stops whatever music or podcast I have playing on my phone. It’s pretty annoying when trying to listen to music while cooking dinner. Other than that it’s a good app

This app is good because it has recipes from some of the best cooking magazines. This app is also good because it has really good user reviews of each recipe so you can learn modifications. This app is bad because you can’t store by food type and meal and you can’t sort by most reviewed just most stars which could be 5 stars with 1 user or 500 users you can’t sort it that way

For $5/month it should be way better. There is no ability to create folders for saved recipes. They are only available by date of save. So if I want that first soup recipe, I have to scroll thru so many recipes. There is no search saved recipes capability either. I’ve started to just download the recipes I want to keep.
