USPSTF Recommendations (ePSS)

Features & Capabilities

The Prevention TaskForce (formerly ePSS) is an application developed by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to support the independent U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). It helps primary care clinicians identify screening, counseling, and preventive medications aligned with USPSTF recommendations.

Information is searchable by patient characteristics such as age, sex, and risk factors. Users should read the specific recommendation to determine applicability for a patient. This tool is not a substitute for clinical judgment and individualized care. Application downloads and data updates require internet connectivity.

User Reviews

Users value the app for being easy to use, well organized, and time-saving, with clear, evidence-based preventive recommendations at the point of care and usefulness in medical training. However, recurring problems with crashes, outdated content, broken links, and UI limitations (dark mode, readability, iPad portrait mode) and iOS compatibility have led to frustration and inconsistent performance across devices.
Pros
  • Easy to use, color-coded, and well organized.
  • Provides all preventive recommendations after entering patient details.
  • Saves time for clinicians in daily practice.
  • Delivers evidence-based guidelines at the point of care.
  • Useful for medical students during clinical rotations.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and instability, especially after iOS updates; sometimes won’t open.
  • Recommendations can be outdated or not auto-updating; some links broken.
  • Lacks dark mode support and readability options (font/color issues).
  • Compatibility issues: iPad portrait-only mode and general iOS compatibility problems.
  • Unit options are limited or changed (loss of metric/International System support).

Yo! Update the current recommends already! This is a sweet tool but not so sweet of it’s not up to date… by several years! Wrong information is not good information. Thanks!

I will put in info for any given person, it’ll list all these tests in the A&B recommendation lists, which are “highly recommended”. Then I’ll scroll down to the D recommendation list, which is like “not recommended”. It’s the same exact list. No matter what variables I put in, and it’ll be different lists, but the highly & the not recommended lists are always identical. And the “I” list is the same about half the time. Idk what’s going on. It’s a joke.
