User Reviews

iStroboSoft is a powerful, professional-grade strobe tuner with exceptional accuracy and broad instrument support. Users praise its crisp tuning, rich feature set (sweetened tunings, harmonics, frequency analysis) and tablet-friendly display, especially when paired with an external audio interface. However, it has a steep learning curve and a sometimes confusing UI, with many features available only as paid add-ons that aren’t clearly disclosed. Reliability concerns—freezes, tracking issues, and limited input options (microphone only on iOS)—also appear in several reviews. Overall, a top-tier choice for pros who accept its complexity and pricing.
Pros
  • Very precise/accurate tuning; professional-grade performance
  • Versatile across many instruments and contexts (brass, piano, guitar, sax, voice, etc.)
  • Sweetened tunings and harmonics features provide superior tuning options
  • Excellent when used with external audio interface input; smoother, more accurate readings
  • Tablet-friendly display plus advanced analysis/tools improve readability and precision
Cons
  • Pricing and add-ons can be costly and not clearly disclosed at purchase
  • Steep learning curve and confusing UI with navigation and acronyms
  • Reliability issues like occasional freezing and tracking problems, especially with low notes
  • Input limitation: iOS version relies on microphone input only; not suitable for noisy environments or when using hardware interfaces
  • Some features (sweeteners, advanced temperaments) require extra purchases; not always obvious

I purchased this app based off of good reviews here and on Reddit. From the day I purchased it I’ve been disappointed by the issues I’ve had. On my M4 IPad Pro it almost always displays the hz multiple octaves up (frequently double.) Also I cannot get my interface for my guitar to work with this app. It’s recording and sending input to the iPad but nothing is coming through to the app. I’m not sure if this is even meant to be supported but I resorted to trying it considering I could never get it to work normally. On my iPhone 15 Pro the app works almost seamlessly if I put my phone extremely close to the guitar. Any further away and it can’t hear it even on boost mode with the noise filter on. I tried turning them off and no input. It jumps octaves much less on the phone but it still does it frequently enough to be annoying. Some of this could be user error but I didn’t change any settings after downloading the app. In general the app works well enough and I’m sure the good reviews reflect good experiences. I just didn’t have a great experience myself.

I really wanna use this for work on my iPad mini and country but I will say after not using it for a few minutes it freezes up and I have to restart it. Can do that mid show.

Anyone that doesn’t have a Peterson Tuner needs to look in a mirror and ask themselves what they are doing with their lives. This app does a lot and can be intimidating but the Sweetners are worth it and it takes time to understand it all. If you have questions contact Petersons Customer Service they are always willing to help and is one of the reasons why they have been in business for over 70 years. The only thing I wish they would add to the app is the ability to link my iPhone or iPad to my StroboPlus HDC with this app. My laptop died and have no way of changing out the tunings I currently have loaded on it.
