User Reviews

Users praise Chess - Learn Chess for its beginner-friendly, concise guidance and solid entry point to the game's rules. It provides a large amount of study material and an interactive board to experiment with moves. Reviews note that it’s fast, free, and useful as a reference or refresher. The main downsides are the lack of practice options (no computer opponent or quizzes) and the sense that it functions more as an e-book than a fully interactive app.
Pros
  • Beginner-friendly: simple, concise instructions that are easy to follow for new players.
  • Large study material: about 118 pages of content provides a solid foundation.
  • Interactive board for trying moves: helps beginners practice on a board.
  • Straightforward and free: quick to learn, easy to use, and available at no cost.
  • Useful as a quick reference and refresher: good for learning basics or revisiting concepts.
Cons
  • Limited practice options: difficult to practice without a computer opponent or dedicated exercises.
  • Feels more like an e-book than a full app: some users expect more interactivity.
  • No built-in quizzes or structured practice sections: a requested feature that is missing.

Had always been intimidated by this game. Easy instructions will now make this a blessing to finally play.

The instructions are simple and easy to follow. The interactive board is useful for a beginner to try out the game. However, it is difficult to play against oneself. Perhaps include a board for the beginner to play against "the computer" just to try out the moves discussed in the book.
