User Reviews

Overall, reviewers value WhatTheFont as a font-finding aid: when it works, it identifies fonts and suggests near-identical alternatives, a helpful resource for designers. However, many users report reliability problems: frequent font recognition failures, random or irrelevant results, and recurring crashes or freezes—often after updates. The app also feels slow with a cumbersome interface and lacks consistent performance. In short, it’s useful in theory, but stability and accuracy issues dominate most reviews.
Pros
  • Identifies fonts and provides near-identical or similar font suggestions.
  • Has been a trusted go-to tool for professional designers for years.
  • Often helps discover additional font options you might not find otherwise.
Cons
  • Frequent font recognition failures and incorrect results.
  • Crashes or freezes during use, including after updates.
  • Update regressions that stop the app from identifying fonts.
  • Output often feels random or irrelevant instead of matching fonts.
  • Slow performance and a cumbersome user interface.

This app not only found my font but gave me some great similar suggestions that I hadn't found before in my search

I wanted this app to help with a MS PowerPoint presentation. I needed to find Microsoft font types that I could use in a presentation. The scanned font returned 80 random fonts, none of which were available in Microsoft. So unless there is a way to filter results and find font types that can actually use… this app is useless.
