User Reviews
Pros
- A highly comprehensive visual reference for chords (inversions, extensions) and scales that many users consider superior to other apps.
- Very easy to use with intuitive navigation and excellent arpeggios; described as the easiest, quickest, and most accurate guitar tool.
- Longstanding, reliable go-to reference that users rely on for jazz studies and daily practice.
- Ability to relate chords to scales across positions, aiding learning and fingering, with frequent praise for its usefulness.
Cons
- Incomplete chord library and grips (e.g., limited Cadd9 options, missing diminished chords).
- Audio issues: no sound on iPad or sound not working; inconsistent audio quality.
- Lack of support for alternate tunings; chords in alternate tunings not available and tunings are limited.
- New version UX changes are less intuitive and users miss the old version; design/theme issues.
- Stability and performance problems on some devices (crashes, lag, slow chord lookup, and payment/load issues).
Recent reviews
I have had this app for many years. And as a visual aid for guitarists who understand some theory but need some visual reminders from time to time about chord inversions and extensions and scale layouts it is superior to any other app I have seen. But it does have some shortcomings. Just now I was looking for all the options for a Cadd9 chord. It only offered two options and neither was the simplest version in the first position built off the open C Major chord. I have also found missing grips for other jazzy type chords under the “CHORD” tab, which I have had to look for by using the chord ”FINDER” tab for grips I have seen other people use that I don’t have a name for. This may seem a petty complaint for such an excellent app, but when nothing else out there in “APPworld” is so concise, comprehensive and easy to use, it would be nice for it to be perfect.

I've been an off and on professional guitar player and songwriter for 40 years and this is the easiest, quickest and most accurate guitar tool ever. It's not just an app, it's a tool.
