Galaxy Physics in your pocket!

Galaxy Collider simulates the universe in your pocket. So brace yourself for the collision of the Milky Way with the Andromeda Galaxy!

Galaxy Collider simulates the physics of interacting galaxies by computing the gravitational forces between the stars and the heavy galaxy centers.

Galaxy collider features a high performance particle engine that can interactively visualize spectacular galaxy interactions. It uses OpenGL point sprites for rendering thousands of high-quality stars at high frame rates.

The parameters of the simulation, such as the number of galaxies and stars, masses, etc. can be changed interactively to explore the infinite number of possible interactions between the galaxies.

Galaxy collider uses the build-in accelerometer of IPhone or IPod touch to change viewpoints add real external forces to the simulation.

User Reviews

Galaxy Collider is visually striking and fun to watch, with a rich set of settings and even a 3D mode. Reviewers praise the graphics and the engaging physics, but repeatedly note stability issues (crashes/black screens) when using multiple galaxies, and frustration with time control options and UI clutter. Persisting settings and presets is another common complaint, along with requests for features like black holes. Overall, strong visuals and configurability are hampered by reliability and usability issues that recur across many reviews.
Pros
  • Beautiful, visually appealing graphics with realistic-looking galaxy merger visuals.
  • Entertaining and engaging to observe and manipulate.
  • Extensive settings and customization options, including timing controls and adjustable physics constants.
  • Optional 3D view adds depth and immersion.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes, freezes, and black screens with multiple galaxies.
  • No slow-motion or clear time-control; speed options are missing or hard to access.
  • Bottom UI bar obstructs the view; users want fullscreen or an easy way to hide it.
  • Settings and presets don’t reliably persist between uses.
  • Missing features like black holes; users want more gravity-related options.

I like this app a lot, I think. But I'm blinded by the white bar across the bottom. I hold my hand over it to watch but get tired of bothering. Hide that bar and I'll give it another try.

I simply tried to slow the simulation down and there was no way to do it. It says in the help that you can tap on the upper left part of the screen to bring up the settings and that there is a slow motion slider somewhere. I tapped 1000 ways to Tuesday and no settings came up.I could not find The slow-motion slider anywhere and is not in the settings anywhere. So unless you just want to watch galaxies collide at top speed leaving you little or no Ability to see watch what's going on don't bother downloading this app!
