User Reviews

Users praise Knot Guide as a comprehensive, learner-friendly knot reference that stays accessible and updated for some. However, the shift to a subscription model—locking knots behind paywalls, forcing longtime buyers to subscribe, high costs, and intrusive prompts—drives many to delete the app or seek alternatives.
Pros
  • Comprehensive knot library and a strong learning resource for tying knots.
  • Easy to understand and user-friendly reference.
  • Reliable on-hand reference that’s available when you need it.
  • Regular updates keep the guide current and maintained.
Cons
  • Knots are increasingly locked behind a subscription, gating content users previously paid for.
  • Long-time buyers feel baited or forced to subscribe after purchase.
  • Subscription price is high (around $32/year) and many users deem it not worth the cost.
  • Perceived lack of meaningful updates or new knot content to justify the subscription.
  • Intrusive pay prompts and UI friction make it annoying to use.

I really liked the app when it was 100% free. I understand the developers want to make money and/or cover their costs. However, the subscription model just doesn’t make sense for this type of app - it’s not a use every day kind of app. There are plenty of other places to look up knots for free. There’s about to be one less app on my phone.

I’ve had this app for a number of years. When I first got it, it was completely free. I understand maintaining these apps takes time, effort, and money, but to start charging a recurring fee for info that is readily available for free on many other apps, not to mention the internet, nah don’t think so. Anyway, yeah y’all have a good app, but I’m not paying for something I can very easily find for free elsewhere, like Knots by Grogg (outstanding app and website) and many others.

Did you move ‘free’ knots to the ‘paid’ knots section?
