Features & Capabilities

Ocarina is a browser-based musical flute simulator that uses your microphone and motion sensing to create expressive melodies. No musical training needed—blow into the mic, tap holes, tilt to vary vibrato, and switch keys and modes such as C-Major and a Zelda-inspired Zeldarian mode.

Connect with a global community of players: browse Songbook songs, listen to performances around the world, rate favorites, name your Ocarina, and share recordings with friends. Save your performances on a personal My Ocarina page and be part of the Smule music ecosystem.

User Reviews

Users praise Ocarina for Zelda nostalgia, ease of use, portability, and the revival of a beloved concept. Common gripes center on stability issues, a limited four-hole design, and missing learning resources, with some desire for ongoing updates and better globe-sharing reliability. Overall, fans love the concept but want improved reliability and more content.
Pros
  • Nostalgia and strong Zelda fan appeal that resonates with long-time players.
  • Fun, beginner-friendly experience that's easy for kids to pick up.
  • Portable instrument feel—your phone becomes a wind instrument you can carry in your pocket.
  • Revival after years of absence is appreciated by fans and makes the app feel reliable again.
  • Unique microphone-blowing interaction to produce sound is a standout, playful feature.
Cons
  • Crashes and instability (launch crashes and occasional region or input-related crashes).
  • Limited hole count (four holes) restricts playable tunes; many users want more holes.
  • Missing learning resources (no sheet music or guided lessons; learning materials are hard to find).
  • Requests for updates/new features (desire for ongoing development, more content, and enhancements).
  • Globe/world-sharing feature can be glitchy or unclear about whether votes are counting.

I got this game so I could dip my toes into the Ocarina. It’s much harder than it looks. Also sometimes the breath thing doesn’t work so I use the touch setting. Also it’s hard to play certain Zelda songs since it’s only 4 holes. But over all it’s great for me while I wait for my real Ocarina!!!!🩵🔺 🔺🔺

So, first off, awesome! I got back from watching The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act in theaters today, and I randomly felt the desire to play the show’s theme on the ocarina. Now, it took a while to get it right, and even then, I had to redo it due to a crash. I had to screen record it to save it. Uploading the songs and getting them emailed to you are both broken features that force a crash. So, if you may, could you consider updating the app, even if just to add a compatibility layer? Might also be cool to have more finger dots for the ocarina. Perhaps, if it isn’t too complicated (since there’s a limit of 5 fingers on Apple devices), if there are more holed options, there could be buttons dedicated to holding multiple holes? Idk, that might be too convoluted… but regardless, even if you don’t change the interface, it would be cool to have it working again!
