User Reviews

KTdict is widely praised for being easy to use and reliable for quick translations, with robust Mandarin and Cantonese support. Reviewers highlight features like handwriting input with stroke order, pronunciation and a speaking function, offline study tools (flashcards, daily sets), and useful history/color coding. However, several users report stability issues after updates, including broken typing/pasting and cross-device glitches, plus intrusive ads or new paywall models. Additional complaints include hard-to-use hotkeys and UI changes. Many still hope for features like Jyutping, traditional character support, and word-saving for study.
Pros
  • Easy to use and reliable for quick translations.
  • Cantonese readings support in addition to Mandarin with pronunciation features.
  • Handwriting input with stroke order to draw and find characters.
  • Offline study tools (flashcards, daily sets) for learning without internet.
  • Pronunciation/speaker feature to hear words spoken.
Cons
  • Post-update instability and loss of core functions (typing in Chinese, pasting, and search) across devices.
  • Ads and paid-upgrade changes; users report intrusive ads or being asked to pay again.
  • Hotkeys for trainer are not easily customizable or convenient.
  • Interface changes in updates hinder usability (large fonts, altered navigation and result ordering).
  • Some expected features are missing or not working as users want (e.g., Jyutping, saving words).

I've been using it for 5 years, and find it much handier, with a better inventory of phrases, idioms, and general information. The newest update gives it a nicer interface, easier to read. It's in the cloud, so my inputs are shared on all devices.
