User Reviews

Users praise the app as a free, ad-free, feature-rich Japanese dictionary and study tool with flashcards and lists. The main drawbacks are unreliable speech/pronunciation features, no cloud or cross-device sync, a long period without updates, and occasional Mac-specific issues. Overall, great for learners who want a comprehensive offline resource, especially for JLPT/Kanji study, but expect bugs and limited platform syncing.
Pros
  • Free and ad-free access with no subscription required.
  • Rich dictionary with example sentences, furigana, and topic-based organization for quick lookup.
  • Built-in study tools like flashcards and custom word lists/decks that support effective memorization.
  • Helpful for JLPT and kanji study, including JLPT level tagging, kanji drill features, and furigana toggling.
Cons
  • Pronunciation/speak feature is bugged and often non-functional.
  • No cloud sync across devices and limited import/export options; iCloud sync would be welcome.
  • Hasn't seen meaningful updates for years, with some bugs remaining unfixed.
  • Occasional Mac-specific issues (not designed for Mac, occasional freezes).

I have been using this dictionary for years. These reference materials, multiple example sentences, and ability to make my own word lists to study is great.

I have been learning Japanese since 2022 and I downloaded this app and helped me memorize and learn new words each day which really gives my brain a workout. It’s also useful for learning to write and study JLPT levels. I’m currently in N4 almost N3 I think.

with all the study methods you have to pay for, this specifc study app is not only entirely free, but is one of the best tools I've been able to add to my studying tools. As someone who has jumped from study app to study app, this app has done wonders for my memorization of key components of japanese. NOTE: I'd still reccomend using other methods alongside this one, but don't underestimate this app, its heavily effective if used properly.
