User Reviews

iKana is a thorough, well-designed tool for learning Hiragana and Katakana with robust tests, a dictionary, kanji add-on, and strong support. Users report fast learning and daily use, plus a generally accessible (mostly free) model. Common downsides across reviews include price/value concerns, frequent Apple ID sign-in prompts, a broken or unreliable speed test, limited/priced content, and beginner-unfriendly navigation. Addressing these issues could elevate it further as a top kana-learning app on iOS.
Pros
  • Covers both Hiragana and Katakana with thorough testing (speed and stroke order) plus a dictionary and kanji practice.
  • Clean, simple design that’s easy to use for all ages.
  • Effective learning with multiple test modes, including dual kana testing and timed speed tests, which aids reading speed and memorization of stroke order.
  • Strong support and responsiveness from the developer.
  • Mostly free to use with a light paywall/paid add-ons, making it accessible for travel and ongoing practice.
Cons
  • Perceived price/value concerns; some users feel the app isn’t worth the money.
  • Repeated prompts to sign in with Apple ID / iTunes, which feels intrusive and raises trust concerns.

Would love to see dictation practice added to this app! Otherwise, it’s perfect — the best app for learning kana on iOS by far.

Не могу сказать что это достойно денег,мне кажется можно найти такое же самое только бесплатно.Оформлено некрасиво,нету разнообразия и очень скучно,программа вроде хорошая,но не заслуживает денег так точно

I love this app because is mostly free without a pay wall of some sort and you can use it for travel or learning hiragana or katakana, or even kanji the most hardest. Even you know Chinese but Japanese kanji and Chinese letters are a little bit of different meanings. And I’m using this on my iPhone if this app would come to the Mac or pc I would use it every day. And I can practice my Japanese language skills. And right now I know two languages almost three. The first one is English of course and the second one is Cantonese and the third one is obviously Japanese. The one I’m practicing right now.
