User Reviews

Users praise Outliner for its simplicity, speed, stability, cross-device syncing, multi-level outlining, and export options, with dark mode appreciated by some. However, several reviews note UI regressions in updates—cluttered layouts, persistent panes, and confusing dropdowns—and tagging limitations (per-outline tagging only; desire for per-item coloring/tagging). Overall, it remains a dependable, long-running outlining tool with room for UX and tagging improvements.
Pros
  • Extremely easy, fast, intuitive, and stable.
  • Reliable cross-device syncing and web access with export options.
  • Excellent support for multi-level outlines with a minimalist, elegant UI.
  • Strong export options and Dropbox integration for cloud sync.
  • Dark mode support.
Cons
  • UI/UX regressions in the latest version clutter the editing space (persistent left pane, large bottom keyboard) and confuse navigation.
  • Tagging is limited to whole outlines; users want per-item tagging and color tags.

I’ve used the previous version on my ipad and have been very happy with it. The new version however has me reconsidering my fidelity to it. The pane that lists my outlines will not go away, shrink, or move out of the way, thereby eating up a third of the screen. The keyboard is now much bigger and now fills a third of the screen from the bottom. What’s left is a postage stamp sized space for the outline itself. This is unacceptable. Am I doing something wrong?

The new drop down menu basically is confusing and not as easy as the bottom Page menu bar was.

I’ve been using this thing for Years. A no frills outliner that does everything you need. Unbelievably easy, fast, intuitive, STABLE. Don’t get wrapped up in options- use this and GET THINGS DONE.
