The player aims to navigate a grid of squares while avoiding mines and identifying all safe locations. The grid contains randomly placed mines, and the player must guess the positions of the mines.

When the player selects a specific square on the grid, a number is displayed indicating how many adjacent squares contain mines, up to a maximum of eight. Using the numbers, the player must determine how many mines are surrounding the selected square and identify the locations of the mines.

If the player selects a square containing a mine, the game is over. When all safe locations have been identified and all mine locations are displayed, the player has cleared the game.
