I really enjoy the core idea of Necromancer: Frost and Flame. Conquering the map, capturing castles for passive gold and bones, fighting treasuries for gold and gems, destroying Border Garrisons to unlock new areas, upgrading your base, and building a lineup of different heroes creates a genuinely fun progression loop.
My biggest issue is the hero and combat balance. Long-range heroes are generally much more useful because all heroes stay in place and automatically target the closest enemy. Melee and mid-range heroes can spend a lot of time doing nothing until enemies reach their attack range, while long-range units contribute throughout most of the battle. Enemy archers are especially frustrating because they can stack safely behind tankier melee enemies while your heroes are forced to attack whatever is closest.
Because of this, the Hunter feels almost mandatory. His manually targeted AoE is one of the only reliable ways I’ve found to quickly eliminate dangerous groups of archers hiding behind the frontline. Even in Border Garrison battles, where melee and mid-range heroes become more useful because enemies spawn closer, Hunter can instantly clear a spawned wave whenever his ability is ready. The shorter-range heroes mainly shine while his ability is on cooldown.
I would love to see better ways for melee and mid-range heroes to contribute, more heroes with different roles and targeting mechanics, and more ways to counter enemy backlines so that one hero doesn’t feel necessary for so many situations.
The progression systems could also use more depth. Bones can become much harder to obtain compared to gold while being necessary for hero upgrades, and I would really like a way to reset or respec points spent on permanent upgrades. More meaningful upgrade choices would also make the meta progression more interesting.
The game is still receiving updates, so I wouldn’t call it completely abandoned, but most of the recent version history appears focused on bug fixes, functionality, and occasional vaguely described balance updates rather than substantial new content. Meanwhile, some in-game features still say “Coming Soon.” I would love to see a major content update with more heroes, artifacts, battle types, base progression, and meaningful late-game content.
There’s a genuinely fun game here with a great foundation. I just wish its strongest ideas were developed further. With better hero balance, more strategic combat options, deeper progression, and substantial new content, I could easily see myself rating this much higher.

Fun game, but most units are useless except as meat shields, and you will fight the exact same enemies forever. No variety like the pictures in the App Store. And I’ve quickly run out of content, without need to do max upgrades. Heck, the game bugged so that I could no longer gain experience. Anyways, I’m moving on since I conquered every castle and counting the game as done.
