Features & Capabilities

AirGuard identifies trackers like AirTag, Samsung SmartTag and Tile that may be following you. It uses Bluetooth scans, stores found trackers locally on your device, and notifies you when a tracker is detected at least three times in different locations to reduce false alarms. With the scan feature you can search for a specific device and see how close you are; when you reach 100%, you’ve found it.

AirGuard is free and open-source, developed as part of a privacy-focused research project at the Technical University of Darmstadt (Secure Mobile Networking Lab). The project aims to protect privacy and study tracking behavior. It offers an opt-in anonymized data study, provides links to the privacy policy and GitHub repository, and clarifies that it is not affiliated with Apple or Samsung. There are no ads or monetization.

User Reviews

Users largely praise AirGuard for locating trackers and AirTags, often with a proximity reading and beeping to guide you, and for boosting safety, especially in stalking scenarios. It’s free and can provide quick results. However, many reviews note inconsistent performance, with some trackers not detected, occasional Bluetooth issues, and reliability problems depending on device or situation.
Pros
  • Helps locate trackers/AirTags with proximity range and sound cues to guide you to the device.
  • Detects trackers that other apps miss, improving security.
  • Increases safety and peace of mind in stalking-related scenarios.
  • Free to use with no paid upgrade needed.
  • Often provides quick results, sometimes within minutes.
Cons
  • Detection is inconsistent; it can miss trackers even at close range.
  • Not all devices are reliably detected (e.g., some AirTags/Tiles may be missed).
  • Bluetooth connectivity issues can prevent the app from working.
  • Not always alerting when a tracker is moving with you, reducing reliability in some cases.

I always suspected I was being followed or being tracked down. Never heard of this app before. After three days of messing the app and see it what it does my suspicions and were right all the time. It found the lulaven wireless tag hidden on the top edge of the hood by the windshield wipers. I now wondered what was that beep when I would hear it driving. I am an electrician, so many of tools or at least a few used AA batteries. I thought it were my tools beeping. No, I have been tracked down all this time and I knew. Thanks developers. And as for anyone get this app if you need it.
