Why consider investing in the Krugerrand coin? The Krugerrand is made from 22 carat gold, 9167 of pure gold and 833 parts copper. The alloy with copper ensures that the coins are not easily scratched or defaced, thereby protecting their value and tradability. The Krugerrand is the only legal tender bullion coin with its face value denominated in ounces of pure gold, therefore it is guaranteed that the South African Reserve Bank will purchase any tendered Krugerrand at the ruling price of gold on the day. In 2018, the Silver Krugerrand bullion coin was launched. This coin is produced in unlimited mintage where the quantity struck is dependent on the market’s demands. The daily mintage relies on the daily price of silver.

The Gold Krugerrand coins are available in 1 ounce, ½ ounce, ¼ ounce and 1/10 ounce of pure gold. The Silver Krugerrand coins are available in 1 ounce.

The Gold Bars are available in 10g, 50g and 100grams. The Silver Bars are available in 1 ounce.

The well known Krugerrand coins are produced by the established South African Mint and the Rand Refinery. The first mint of South Africa was established in 1890, then in 1923 established as a branch of the Royal Mint, and in 1941 established as an independent mint. The South African Mint is responsible for minting on behalf of the South African Reserve Bank and struck by the Rand Refinery. The Rand Refinery is the largest integrated single-site precious metals refining and smelting complex in the world. It was established in 1920 to refine gold within South Africa which until that time had been refined in London.

The Rand Refinery is committed to internationally accepted responsible sourcing practices and as such is in conformance with the LBMA Responsible Gold & Silver Guidance and the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High Risk Areas. Not only does the Rand Refinery ensure meeting the strictest standards, but also has a certified gold & silver chain-of-custody and is independently audited to heed to the requirements set by independent bodies and recently enacted legislation.
