Features & Capabilities

Access by McGraw Hill is your personal medical learning resource designed to fit your schedule. Search across medical resources—videos, podcasts, images, infographics, and textbooks, including Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine and Tintinalli's Emergency Medicine—to learn in the way that matches your style. Save resources, create collections, and tailor your experience with a personal dashboard.

Refine results by content type, search within content for details, view figures and tables, and even study offline. This app covers multiple specialties (general medicine, anesthesiology, cardiology, dermatology, emergency medicine, hematology, neurology, ObGyn, pediatrics, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and surgery) and aggregates content from the full Access suite. Full content requires an institutional McGraw Hill Access subscription, with a seven-day trial to link your profile.

User Reviews

Users like Access for mobile textbook reading, highlighting, and offline chapter downloads, and note the app is fast when it works. However, many reviews repeatedly cite sign-in problems, crashes, lost progress, broken search, and poor syncing of favorites between the app and online account. UI glitches and occasional text-copying crashes also frustrate users. Overall sentiment is mixed-to-negative due to reliability issues, though some users report improvements after updates.
Pros
  • Great for reading on the go with access to textbooks on the mobile app.
  • Supports favorites, highlights, and bookmarking (including figures and tables) for quick reference.
  • Offline reading available by downloading chapters.
  • Fast and convenient performance when the app is functioning properly.
Cons
  • Sign-in/authentication problems, including looping prompts and server errors, making it hard to log in.
  • Frequent crashes and unexpected logouts that can erase progress.
  • Unreliable or broken search that returns errors or shows no results.
  • Sync issues where favorites and reading progress do not transfer between the app and the online account.
  • UI glitches and instability (e.g., top-bar layout issues) and occasional text-copying crashes.

I downloaded the app. I put my username and password in. It asked me to open the app and it send me back to the sign in prompt. Over and over again. Useless.

The search function is unusable. It will say there are results for your search, but will not display them and will instead state “Sorry we didn’t find anything”. Accounts do not sync properly with your online account. Books, collections, and favorites are not added appropriately. Just another broken, useless app pushed onto students that offers no benefit.

App continues to crash and log me out every time I try to view content with paid subscription. Attempted to fix 3x. Terrible quality and very glitchy/hard to navigate within textbook. Don’t waste data downloading it.
