User Reviews

Users praise Guitar Fretboard: Scales for its deep customization, intuitive interface, and powerful learning tools—scales, modes, and chords can be built, saved, and visualized; you can enter progressions on one string and have them populate others; it supports any tuning and key shifting; the UX is praised as thoughtful and visually polished. The main drawbacks raised across reviews are pricing concerns (subscription vs one-time Pro) and reliability issues, notably occasional data loss of saved patterns and crashes. Overall, users report strong value and motivation to practice, with room for improvement on stability and pricing.
Pros
  • Extremely flexible and customizable fretboard interface (shapes vs intervals, custom scales/chords, adjustable layouts) with easy saving of patterns.
  • Powerful learning features: build scales and chords, train with pattern recognition and trainer games, and enter progressions on one string that populate across the fretboard; automatic key shifting.
  • Tuning versatility and export options: supports any tuning and lets you save/export scales and chords as photos, with cross-device usability.
  • Thoughtful UX and strong visual design: well-designed, intuitive, and comprehensive with helpful visual cues.
  • Perceived value and active development: users appreciate the pro features and ongoing improvements.
Cons
  • Pricing concerns: subscription-based model is seen as a downside; some users would prefer a one-time Pro purchase.
  • Reliability issues: reports of data loss (custom patterns) and occasional crashes when changing scale modes.
  • Pattern persistence and organization problems: some users note difficulties with keeping saved patterns intact and orderly across app sessions.

Such a under rated app I love it I use it almost everyday just one thing, I wish in the fretboard it had a mode to show both the flats and sharps and not just one of them as I would like to also memorize both notes names EX: Ab/G# A Bb/A# B C

If you are serious about expanding your chord and scale vocabulary, this app is the best. The interface is very flexible and you can customize it to focus on shapes vs intervals. You can customize existing scales and chords and save the new ones. Any tuning you play in can be used within the app. Also chord and scales can be saved as photos. It allows you to quickly input a note progression on one string, and it automatically populates them in the rest, and if it matches an existing scale, it will let you know. To shift the key, all you have to do is select whichever key you want and all the notes adapt to the new key. That’s just to name a few excellent features of this app.
