Features & Capabilities

Sony | BRAVIA Connect is the control app for Sony TVs and home theater products, enabling easy smartphone-based setup and operation. It guides you through setup with device-optimized animations and supports a growing lineup of compatible devices, including BRAVIA TVs and BRAVIA Theatre Bar soundbars. Note: Home Entertainment Connect has been renamed to Sony | BRAVIA Connect, and you can continue using compatible devices with the new name. Availability varies by region and some devices or services may not be supported everywhere.

Beyond setup, you can control devices from your phone, receive feature recommendations and software update alerts, and use built-in accessibility features like iOS VoiceOver to aid with setup and navigation. The app is designed to stay up to date, but not all functions are guaranteed on every device, and some regions may have limited support; Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi are trademarks referenced in the app.

User Reviews

The Sony BRAVIA Connect iOS app is valued for letting users control the TV from their phone and for Bluetooth music playback with many features. However, users repeatedly report instability: frequent disconnections, reliance on resets/re-pairing, login friction, privacy concerns, and breakages after TV firmware updates. The app is also slow to load and can hang, and the initial setup can be lengthy and error-prone. Overall, stability and onboarding improvements are the main user pain points.
Pros
  • Let users use their phone as a remote with extensive TV controls.
  • Parallels the physical remote and TV settings; supports Bluetooth music playback.
  • Offers a range of features to refine the viewing experience.
Cons
  • Unreliable connectivity: the app frequently disconnects and won’t stay connected, often requiring resets or re-pairing.
  • Sign-in friction and privacy concerns: lengthy sign-in process and credentials issues; some users worry about data sharing.
  • After TV firmware updates, the app often breaks or loses connection.
  • Slow performance and occasional hangs or loading delays (busy icon).
  • Setup is time-consuming and can require days to get fully working, with repeated reinstalls.

The swipe to navigate is way over sensitive. You can’t possibly select anything. Couldn’t they have just created buttons like an actual remote?

For years, I owned a big Marantz sound system with definitive tech technology speakers. Needless to say that produced great sound. This Bravia system sounds as good and more than likely better when you consider the spatial sound field above you.
