City App Tour

Usually self guided audio tours are great. The app didn’t work for us. Even though it would “ping” to new sites with new pictures, it either didn’t play any description or played the description from the first site over again. We spent an hour fiddling with it and ended up giving up, so it was a waste of money and time.

This walking tour app is a fantastic concept with buzzy and bright notifications, photos, and a map with realtime location and direction guidance. It’s a great way to see a city with little impact on your travel budget and get some exercise! It’s fun to do with your travel partner or small group and the price is reduced with more participants. You can pace yourself as it suits your schedule with no requirement to meet a guide or tour. Having said that, it’s not quite there yet. We struggled with losing location connection in Sevilla. Sometimes the information displayed was not for where we were on the tour. And, the AI generated information is a bit cringy as words are pronounced incorrectly and/or intonation is inaccurate (easily remedied with a bit of editing). One way to remedy some of the issues might be to crowd source this and have people add corrections and personalization along the way. All in all, it’s a good way to see a city on a budget with a bit more in-depth and local experience as you are walking at your own pace.
