User Reviews

ReadKit is praised for its clean design, strong reading features, and good support for various sync services, plus Smart Folders and solid state restoration. However, users repeatedly flag syncing reliability, lack of iCloud sync, macOS UI polish gaps, and slower support responses, along with Smart Folder cross-device sync limitations and other feature gaps.
Pros
  • Polished design with a smooth reading experience and readable view, including AI-generated summaries.
  • Strong support for various sync backends (Miniflux, FreshRSS, Wallabag) and reliable syncing with those services.
  • Advanced organization features like Smart Folders and flexible feed management.
  • Robust state restoration and good cross-device behavior, keeping reading progress intact.
  • Gesture-based navigation and overall usability that many users appreciate.
Cons
  • Syncing is inconsistent or unreliable across feeds/services, with errors and broken sync reported by multiple users.
  • Lack of iCloud/cloud syncing support; cross-device sync expectations are not met.
  • UI polish and platform consistency issues, especially on macOS, with rough edges and non-native feel.
  • Support responsiveness concerns, including reported delays or no replies to issues.
  • Smart Folders syncing limitations and some missing features (e.g., cross-device Smart Folder sync, some import/export features).

I do like this app, but there are some things that would be nice to see improved if it’s being updated at all. 1. When there’s an error syncing a feed, the only options we have are to Unsubscribe or Clear Errors. It would be nice to be able to copy the URL in some way to investigate further whether the sync error is because the RSS link has been discontinued, or if it’s a temporary problem that can be ignored. 2. A number of YouTube videos playing in the app are in any number of languages. I imagine that’s something in the way Google feeds the data to an RSS reader. But I don’t know if it’s possible in this app to be able to change the language of video that’s playing in it. 3. Once you’ve cleared all the feeds in the app, it would be nice if the focus remained on the Unread option so the next time you put focus on the app, it is already showing you the newest unread items. A very minor thing, but just a smoother user experience in my mind.
