PlayBook - Coach Tactic Board

Make plays like a PRO

Features & Capabilities

PlayBook is a coaching board app that lets coaches create professional plays in seconds. Draw offensive and defensive setups, choose court styles, customize team colors and logos, and easily design passes, screens, dribbles, and other movements. Apple Pencil support on iPad makes sketching fluid, and you can resize players, add cones for drills, and rotate the board for different views.

Coaches can save plays with notes, record audio or voice, export plays as JPEG or PDF, and share with teams, colleagues, or other coaches. The app supports multiple sports, offers various court styles, textures, shapes, and themes, and is ad-free for focused coaching during timeouts and meetings. A PlayBook Pro upgrade unlocks even more customization and export options.

User Reviews

Most reviews see PlayBook as a promising coaching tool for drawing up plays, but its paid model, reliability issues, and rough editing UX hurt usability. Users frequently note that essential functions are locked behind pricey subscriptions, with the free version offering little. Bugs around saving/restoring purchases and post-update changes compound frustration, as does a tedious editing interface and limited free features. A few reviews still praise the concept, but pricing, stability, and ease of use are the dominant concerns.
Pros
  • Core feature: drawing up and customizing plays.
  • Positive coaching tool for visualizing tactics and plays.
  • Overall usefulness for coaches as a tactic board and teaching aid.
Cons
  • Paywall and pricing: essential features require payment; free version is limited or worthless.
  • Reliability and bugs: issues with saving/restoring purchases, post-update regressions, and screen recording blocks.
  • Editing and UX problems: tedious editing, missing erase tool, and difficult-to-use interface.
  • Feature limitations in free tier: roster limits (e.g., only 3 players) and lack of pre-built plays.
  • Weak customer support: slow or unresponsive when addressing purchase or functionality issues.

Paid for the app and it hasn’t worked since I decided to pay.

Good because you can make, good plays bad cause you have to pay

This app officially takes 1st place as the runaway winner of worst app I've had the sickening displeasure of using ( or trying to) only to try to save one drawn D scheme & it repeatedly called for a screen rotation yet never saved anything. One thing its GREAT AT? REPETITIVE directions to a massively over-priced party option. Greed much???? STAY AWAY from this debacle
