FFS: Unofficial AO3 Reader app

AO3 Tracker, Ebooks & Fandoms

Features & Capabilities

Now with the Oracle - on-device AI that whispers your next favourite story, and eight Sacred Voices for read-aloud. Reading is free; patronage is optional.

FF Stories — a sanctuary for fanfiction. Read Archive of Our Own (AO3) the way it deserves to be read: in a quiet, beautiful reader that respects you and your time.

NO TRACKING. NO ANALYTICS. NO SERVER. The Sanctuary runs entirely on your iPhone or iPad. Your reading history, highlights, sigils, and preferences never leave your device. There are no third-party SDKs, no telemetry, no analytics — none. The only data that ever leaves the app is what you send directly to AO3 (your kudos, comments, bookmarks) and your subscription receipts, which go straight to Apple.

KUDOS GO TO THE AUTHORS. Every kudos, comment, and bookmark you leave is sent directly to AO3 under your own account. Authors see the engagement they would from any browser. The app is just a beautiful buffer between you and the Archive — nothing is lost.

WHAT'S INSIDE: • Distraction-free reader with serif typography for long-form prose • Offline reading — download fics and keep them with you • Marked for Later, Highlights, Chronicles of past reading • Eight Sacred Voices for read-aloud — listen to fics while you walk, draw, or rest • The Oracle: on supported iPhones, on-device AI quietly suggests what you might love next. Your reading never leaves the device, ever. • Candlelit dark mode and gold-leaf illumination throughout

JOIN THE CIRCLE OF GUARDIANS — OPTIONAL. The Sanctuary is built by one developer. Reading is, and will always be, free. If you'd like to support ongoing work, monthly patronage is offered at three sizes: • A Candle for the Sanctuary — $0.99 / month • A Flame for the Sanctuary — $2.99 / month • A Beacon for the Sanctuary — $4.99 / month

While your patronage is active, the Sacred Vestments and Guardian rituals unlock as a thank-you. There is no pressure. Cancel anytime.

SUBSCRIPTION TERMS Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscription renews monthly unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or stop anytime in Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions.

User Reviews

Users generally praise FFS as a strong iOS AO3 reader with easy sign-in and accessible content, and they’re hopeful for future improvements. However, recurring complaints include blank pages preventing story loading and a lack of sorting/search for bookmarks and marked-for-later, with some noting VPN workarounds. Overall, the app is favored but needs fixes in loading reliability and bookmark organization to reach its potential.
Pros
  • Strong overall AO3 reader on iOS; many users describe it as the best/great option.
  • Login works and content is accessible after signing in.
  • Positive reception with expectation for ongoing improvements.
Cons
  • Blank pages loading for stories; reported by multiple reviews and can block reading.
  • Bookmark/marked-for-later management lacks sorting and search functions; users want sorting by date updated.

I like the app. Being able to read AO3 stories on my phone is great. But, it won’t ever sync. I can log in, but then it tells me to check my internet connection (full bars). It never lets me see favorited updated fics.

I noticed that the app has a flaw in that as a result of me having over a thousand bookmarks and many marked for later I can’t see them all. There are no like pages function for those tabs. Also, for future features it would be great if the marked for later and bookmark tabs had sorting and search functions. Overall this is a great app I just wish it didn’t have this flaw and had the functions I listed. This the best ao3 reader on iOS so I hope it continues to improve.

Looks like this would be the perfect little app, but I can’t find anyway to connect my account to the app. Everytime I try to bookmark the app crashes. Everytime I try to see the rest of the books in the series, the app crashes. So disappointed
