This app enables Redwood City to commit municipal theft. Their parking lot say no time limit, but the app will only let you pay for two hours. Of course you’re going to pay another $.25 service charge every time you need to pay for additional time. So you’re paying 13% more over the course of an eight hour day than is appropriate. It takes zero effort to make this app allow you to pay for a full day rather than two-hour periods. But of course, this helps the city pad its revenues.

I haven’t actually tested it out with real parking yet, but I don’t see basic functionality I would expect: being able to, for example, specify that I’d rather pay less, even if I have to walk a few blocks. For that matter, I don’t even see basic info about the spots, like cost and for which hours. And I should be able to filter for spots with a sufficiently long time limit. And of course, I should be able to find cost-free spots; it’s unclear that the app even has those. This app seems a long way from being helpful. I don’t yet know whether the app will successfully find me an available spot at crowded times. If so, that might be its one saving grace, but without the other features, that’s still of limited value.
