Offline Tours, Maps & Trails

Features & Capabilities

Parkwolf is your offline national park guide. Research and explore parks, scenic drives, and more with offline maps, detailed landmark and trail information, and a guided audio tour that describes what you see as you travel. CarPlay support makes it easy to get started on the road, and you can pin favorites, tap any landmark for details, or dive into trails even without internet.

It includes wildlife heatmaps, a feed of wildlife sightings, official park alerts, and a mosaic that tracks parks you’ve visited. All data is pre-downloaded so most features work offline, and Parkwolf currently covers 63 U.S. National Parks with ongoing expansion worldwide. An optional Parkwolf PRO subscription is available, including a free trial.

User Reviews

Parkwolf offers a strong offline, GPS-based audio guide and a helpful, ranger-like map experience across multiple parks. Users praise informative narration, pull-off tips, and no-cell-service usefulness for itineraries. However, recurring issues hold it back: confusing trial charges and annual fees, inconsistent audio playback, occasional freezes and GPS update problems, and content that some users feel is promotional rather than substantive. Content gaps and support responsiveness also appear in reviews. Overall, it’s a valuable travel companion when it works, but reliability and pricing concerns limit its appeal.
Pros
  • Informative and engaging audio tours that enhance park visits.
  • Offline GPS-based navigation and maps mean you can use the app without cell service.
  • Accurate GPS tracking and practical stop guidance help find pull-offs and hidden gems.
  • Useful across many parks with timely wildlife and geography commentary.
  • Feels like having a park ranger in the car, adding value to trips.
Cons
  • Trial and subscription charges are easy to incur, with reports of immediate or unexpected $48 yearly charges.
  • Audio playback is inconsistent—some clips are inaudible, fail to play, or only partially work.
  • App can freeze or fail to update location, making reliable offline use challenging.
  • Content can feel promotional or shallow, with limited substantive information beyond paywalls.
  • Customer support is often perceived as unresponsive or hard to reach.

LOVE this app - the audio tour guide is so informative and interesting. Yes, we named him. “Parker Wolfe” was a lovely traveling companion on our recent trip to all the Utah parks. I’ve been telling everyone I know about the app. I do wish there were a way to skip back just one audio clip, or even just go back to the beginning of one that just started playing. I know you can reset the whole guide but that seemed like overkill for times when we missed the beginning of something because we were talking. I use the free trial for a trip to Yosemite last fall. Totally got our money’s worth out of paying for a subscription for the Utah trip we just took.

Intermittent reception issue even after downloading park and using gps signal. Some interesting facts but a bit concerning that they did not even pronounce the name of the park correctly..

Our visit to Big Bend National Park was really enhanced using the Parkwolf app. The local wildlife, park site and geography commentary were informative and timely. The fact that it works without cell service is a real plus, as Big Bend has very spotty coverage. Will use this for every National Park visit in the future. Highly recommend!
