User Reviews

Blink Shell is a powerful, feature-rich iOS terminal that excels for mobile coding and remote workflows, offering SSH/Mosh, port forwarding, and strong keyboard support. However, widespread concerns about its pricing model, licensing changes, and ongoing UX/UI issues on iPadOS dampen its appeal. The capabilities are strong, but the business practices and usability frustrations drive significant dissatisfaction.
Pros
  • Powerful feature set for iOS/iPadOS terminals (SSH, Mosh, port forwarding, netcat, ping) with multi-tab/window support and profiles.
  • Excellent for mobile coding on iPad with external keyboards, enabling near-desktop workflows (remote work, Vim/local editing, VPN/Tailscale).
  • Strong keyboard/macro support and Mac-like keybindings for efficient remote development (e.g., tab management, shortcuts).
Cons
  • Pricing and licensing concerns: forced free trials, a shift to recurring subscriptions, and reports of poor grandfathering of previously purchased licenses.
  • UX and iPadOS reliability issues: ongoing usability complaints and specific UI bugs (eg, window controls on iPadOS) that affect day-to-day use.
  • Onboarding friction: difficulty evaluating the app before purchase due to trial requirements and sudden billing prompts.
  • Trust/ethics concerns raised by users about business practices.

Not sure why this has such a low score, it’s definitely solid and I have been using it for years. I prefer it to anything else on iPad and iPhone. Mosh support is the killer feature to me. I don’t use much else that this has in terms of features - just sliding between different mosh sessions that are connected over tailscale to different containers on Proxmox. It’s a solid setup and everything works well with keyboards, etc.

It works as described, has some issues like any other software but it is better than MOST if not ALL like it in the Apple Store! Gets the job done

“14 day trial” requires you to sign up for an auto-renewing subscription, placing the onus on the user to unsubscribe or be charged. This is a predatory dark pattern.
