Features & Capabilities

Masterworks is an award-winning mobile investment platform that lets everyday investors own shares of multi-million-dollar artworks by artists like Basquiat, Picasso, Banksy, and more through fractional ownership.

User Reviews

Users like the fractional-art concept but report serious reliability and usability problems: crashes and login issues, limited in-app portfolio visibility, restricted liquidity, heavy marketing, and unclear product direction. These issues undermine confidence in returns and exits, while the experience often centers on acquiring new users rather than supporting existing investments.
Pros
  • Fractional investment in art makes art ownership accessible.
  • The platform is marketed as taking the guesswork out of art trading.
  • Some users report positive mobile app performance and UI.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes, glitches, and login issues across devices ( instability and reliability problems).
  • In-app portfolio access is limited or removed; users must view portfolio data on the website, making mobile usage frustrating.
  • Liquidity and exit options are poor: secondary market access is restricted or removed and shares may decline in value with unclear sale timelines.
  • Over-communication and perceived spam: excessive emails/calls and a sense of focus on new signups over managing existing investments.
  • Unfulfilled promises and feature changes (e.g., daily quizzes stopped) with perceived lack of roadmap transparency and confusing product direction.

i signed up for masterworks because friend recommended but after reviewing their fees decided against investing. since then they've spam called me regularly despite me asking to be removed from their list the app and website don't let me update/remove my contact info. sketchy af business practices, strongly discourage even signing up.

They’re slowly reducing app value - you can’t see portfolio performance anymore. Of course you can buy art on the app, but everything else is buried on the web. Super lame - telegraphing that no one (except them) is making any money here.
