User Reviews

User reviews largely condemn the app for monetization and content issues. Recurrent complaints include surprise charges after free trials, difficulty canceling or obtaining refunds, and misleading advertising. Several reviewers say the learning approach isn’t beginner-friendly, dumping kanji early and focusing on memorization rather than reading/grammar. Additional negatives include small text and an inability to disable romaji, no dark mode, and disorganized categories. Pronunciation and voice-recognition tools are frequently inaccurate. A few reviewers note some vocabulary-building benefits, but overall concerns about pricing, content quality, and support dominate.
Pros
  • Some users find the app easy to learn and that it helps build vocabulary with spaced repetition.
  • Users note a variety of study categories available in the app.
  • Several reviewers mention pronunciation practice as a positive aspect for building vocabulary.
Cons
  • Hidden or aggressive subscription charges, with reports of immediate full-price billing after trials and difficulty canceling or obtaining refunds.
  • Learning design is not beginner-friendly: it dumps kanji early, lacks kana breakdowns, and emphasizes memorization over actual reading/grammar.
  • Quality concerns with pronunciation and speech recognition: mispronunciations, TTS inconsistencies, and misgrading due to homophone issues.
  • Poor UI/accessibility: tiny text, romaji cannot be easily disabled, no dark mode, and mixed organization of categories.
  • Reports of content not matching advertisements and ongoing support/refund issues.
Recent reviews
They immediately throw extremely complicated kanji here. And then asked to combine the kanji like their letters. Kanji is not spelling.

Basically you can not use the app if you don’t sign up. You have to get the trial and a plan. Basically they are expecting you to forget to charge you.

I think a lot of these apps really focus entirely on memorising rather than recognition. I would love to find an app or program that will actually teach me how to read and recognise the sounds of everything I’m seeing. I feel like that’s a big part of when I’m missing.
