User Reviews

Reviewers praise Substack as a writer-first, independent platform with strong web publishing and honest discourse, offering a robust alternative to big social networks and a wide range of thoughtful, independent voices. They value deep engagement and discovery of ideas. However, several reviews flag reliability and user-experience issues: persistent iOS app glitches that hamper writing, and onboarding friction with mandatory app install to read content. Overall Substack is seen as a strong platform for independent voices, but reliability and UX glitches need attention.

In this app you can feel like u are in a safe place, and LEARN which is the most important thing nowadays, not just about life itself but about politics, history, liberty, ideas, etc. I’m completely grateful with Chris Best, Jairaj Sethi y Hamish McKenzie for creating this wonderful app, which I hope they don’t let it become an app to sell advertisements. Tyyy ☺️🌹

I have tried all of the existing social media platforms since the birth of Facebook (back when it was actual social media). I was active on Twitter until it was X’d, then left it and rejoined it three times before finally recovering my sanity.LinkedIn started out strong and succumbed to the Facebook disease. I tried TikTok once for half an hour. YouTube is awash in AI slop. Substack is the only one - so far - that retains the best features of the others without (for the most part) the human awfulness that drives their algorithms. This platform is as deep or as shallow as you want it to be and I learn more in an hour here than I can on all the others combined.
