User Reviews

Pointz offers a novel, safety-driven bike routing experience with a tunable safety slider and crowdsourced route data. Users praised the biking focus, open data/editing via OpenStreetMap, and intuitive UI. However, the app struggles with a heavy paywall and intrusive advertising, limiting free use. Users also report accuracy and reliability issues—maps often not accurate, directions not found, and problematic voice guidance—along with bugs and performance hiccups that hamper usability. Overall, it shows promise for cyclists but is held back by monetization, data quality, and stability concerns.
Pros
  • Innovative safety-focused routing with a tunable safety slider and route safety scores.
  • Routes are generally good and cycling-focused, offering an alternative to standard maps for bike travel.
  • Crowdsourced data and OpenStreetMap integration allow user contributions and corrections to improve routing.
  • Helpful bike-specific features such as bike parking markers and the ability to balance safety vs directness.
  • Snappy, easy-to-use interface and intuitive navigation that helps cyclists plan trips.
Cons
  • High price and paywall limits (expensive annual/subscription, with free use capped).
  • Intrusive ads and upgrade prompts that disrupt the experience (overlay ads, frequent popups).
  • Map and directions accuracy issues (directions not found, unsafe routing in some areas, inconsistent data).
  • Free tier restrictions (e.g., only a few routes per week) making the app less usable for casual riders.
  • Bugs and reliability problems (crashes, missing UI elements, voice navigation errors).

… Dev just missed the decimal point, eg $7.90 one time fee, at best. Doesn’t even work — no scrolling despite words peeping up from the bottom. Smh

The concept is great and routes are usually pretty good, but the app needs a lot of work to be more functional.

I appreciate that the developers need to get paid, but I uninstalled the app after seeing five ads in my first five minutes of using it. The final straw was an overlay ad that took up the entire screen while I was in the middle of trying to get directions.
