SponsorBlock for Safari Apple

SponsorBlock for Safari

Skip sponsorships on YouTube

Features & Capabilities

SponsorBlock for Safari lets you skip sponsor segments, intros, outros, and other sponsor moments inside YouTube videos. It is a crowdsourced extension that lets users submit start and end times for sponsored segments, so everyone using it can skip them. It only affects the YouTube website, and it does not block normal YouTube ads. It is open source with a public database and supports compatibility with the Vinegar extension.

The extension uses a randomly generated userID for submissions and voting to help build reputation. You can pair it with AdGuard to block both sponsor segments and traditional ads. The project is open source; source code and changelog are available via the links provided.

User Reviews

Users broadly praise SponsorBlock for Safari as a time-saver and a near-desktop experience, with easy set-it-and-forget-it operation, strong customization, and a helpful community that quickly tags sponsor segments. It’s widely considered worth the price and to dramatically improve YouTube on iOS Safari. On the downside, reviewers report reliability hiccups with auto-skip, occasional mis-detections, and platform quirks (orientation/fullscreen behavior, refresh needs). Some encounter compatibility limits with certain players/ad blockers and note cross‑browser limitations. Overall, most find it worth the cost for heavy YouTube viewers despite the occasional glitches.
Pros
  • Saves substantial time by auto-skipping sponsor segments across videos.
  • Works like the desktop extension, providing a familiar, set-and-forget experience.
  • High customization and a community-driven system for tagging sponsor segments.
  • Improves YouTube viewing on iOS Safari by removing sponsor prompts.
  • Good value for money; many reviewers feel the price is justified or underpriced.
Cons
  • Auto-skip reliability issues: segments may be marked but not skipped, or skipping may be inconsistent.
  • Platform quirks and inconsistencies on iOS/macOS Safari (orientation/fullscreen detection; may require refresh).
  • Compatibility limitations with certain players or ad blockers (e.g., AdGuard’s own media player) or not working across all browsers.
  • Mixed opinions on price: some feel it’s pricey or not worth it, while others see it as worth it.
  • Some UI annoyances (e.g., green buttons next to video titles) reported by a reviewer.

I’ve been using sponsorblock on my PC and MacBook for years, and never knew there was a safari extension for it. While I wish it worked with Firefox (I know it’s an issue with Apple, but still annoying), it makes YouTube on iOS actually bearable. This + Vinegar + Adblock is the best YouTube experience you can get without more annoying workarounds.

Easily best in class for viewing YouTube and wanting to avoid baked in ads. Combined with uBlock origin lite, this makes browsing YouTube exactly like the old days with no interruptions. If you are tired of baked in sponsors, subscribe prompts and merch promotion get this and take back your time.
