Features & Capabilities

Beam Music is a Chrome extension for ensembles and music educators. It lets you import PDFs from Dropbox, Drive, or Local Storage, assign full files or single pages, crop and edit parts, and grant edit access to student leaders. Annotate scores with a pencil, highlighter, and text tool, and enable shared notes for section leaders.

With Live Mode, everyone's parts display on their devices, connected to the leader's device, even offline. Organize your library by creating song collections, building set lists in a specific order, adding durations, and backing up with Beam Backup.

User Reviews

Beam Music is praised for its annotation tools and live syncing, and is seen as convenient and usable on the field after the library is set up. However, users repeatedly report serious reliability problems: frequent crashes, severe lag, and high battery drain during rehearsals; notes can disappear or fail to save when switching apps or exiting live mode. Other recurring gripes include anti-piracy restrictions that stop screenshots, and navigation/orientation issues such as portrait flips and zoom not being preserved. Overall, feature-rich but currently unstable.
Pros
  • Strong annotation/notes features for marking up music.
  • Live mode helps stay in time and sync with the director.
  • Easy to use once the library is set up; convenient for field use.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and instability during rehearsals.
  • Significant lag and unresponsiveness, including long load times and high battery drain.
  • Notes/annotations disappear or fail to save after switching apps or exiting Live mode.
  • Anti-piracy protections prevent screenshots or exporting backups of notes.
  • Orientation/zoom handling is unreliable (portrait flips, zoom not preserved, lack of horizontal page lock).

I really like having all my music in one place! It sometimes bugs out with the writing, but it does work! I really wish you can queue up multiple songs so I have don’t have to scramble during pep band games. Thank you!
