User Reviews

Galaxy Genome is praised for its expansive, open universe with many systems, missions, and ships; a fair, paywall-free progression; and active developer/community support along with a stylish 2D presentation. However, multiple reviews cite crashes and stability issues, unwieldy controls/navigation, weak in-game guidance (no wiki or clear stat explanations), and flawed routing that can be non-optimal. Some mention long, grindy travel and repetitive tasks. Overall, it shows strong potential and depth but would benefit from improved stability, UX/onboarding, and routing improvements to unlock its full experience.
Pros
  • Expansive, open universe with many systems, missions, and ships.
  • No paywalls; fair progression and reasonable price.
  • Deep, multi-layered gameplay including trading, combat, mining, and exploration.
  • Active developer support and community (Discord/Reddit) with ongoing updates.
  • Stylish 2D presentation/art and strong overall presentation.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and stability issues across devices.
  • Clunky controls and navigation that make piloting and route planning tedious.
  • Weak in-game guidance; lack of comprehensive documentation/wiki and unclear stats.
  • Routing/pathfinding can be non-optimal or fail.
  • Pacing can feel grindy or tedious due to long travel and repetitive tasks.

I’m loving this game. love how huge the area that you can travel is, however it is a little confusing how to increase fleet size and how to get two further places like the void. And when you’re trying to map a route for jumping the mapping doesn’t always work even when your ship can make it and you instead have to resort to doing it manually. One thing I would love to see. A way to search in the galaxy map for resources you need to mine so you could map a route to that system for mining missions

Outstanding work on this and great price point. Tons of different missions and ships. Always fun to upgrade your ship and try tougher runs. Only about 10 hrs in and love the fact that there are no pay walls. Hopefully they add the ability to build stations and concur systems, but as is, it’s still 5 stars.

There I was scrolling through the app store and seeing nothing but pay-to-play garbage and I’m thinking, “The phone I’m holding has more power than my first gaming console. There have to be better options.” After a little digging, I found Galaxy Genome, and yes, I finally found an iphone game that gives the old NES library a run for its money. It’s not perfect, a little buggy in places, but it is light second ahead of what you usually find on the App Store. It’s basically a 2D Elite Dangerous but with better story, better progression, and better art. If you love space sim rpgs, this one’s well worth the price.
