Communia: women's social media

Where connection is care

Features & Capabilities

Communia is a safe, moderated social self-care network built for women and non-binary folks. It prioritizes privacy, bans trolls and bots, and uses human moderators and identity verification to create an authentic space. The app blends social connection with self-reflection, offering private and collaborative journaling, mood tracking, guided prompts, mood boards, and goal tracking. Best of all, Communia keeps core social features free and does not sell user data or show ads; a premium wellness subscription funds ongoing improvements while supporting a fair, women-led team.

Discover a controllable feed, a privacy-first posting tool, and open discussions on dating, relationships, mental health, work, and more. The platform emphasizes kindness, community support, and action—while maintaining a safe space for women and non-binary people to grow, heal, and celebrate daily moments. From daily prompts to guided journaling, mood boards, and collaborative journals, Communia invites you to be your unedited self in a space built for care.

User Reviews

Overall, Communia is praised as a safe, supportive space for women with a strong journaling focus and an ad-free, authentic social experience. Users appreciate the positive, real-people community, the clean design, and the active team. However, recurring concerns center on privacy and identity verification—relying on selfies/ID and data persistence—as well as inclusivity issues around pronouns for nonbinary users. Some users also report occasional crashes or slow performance. Despite these drawbacks, many reviews see potential for growth and value the platform’s emphasis on wellbeing and meaningful connections.
Pros
  • Safe, supportive space for women with genuine, non-judgmental interactions.
  • Journaling and mental‑health features (prompts, mood tracking, autosave) that support wellbeing.
  • No ads or follower/like metrics; emphasis on real connections and meaningful engagement.
  • Visually pleasing, user-friendly design with group spaces for shared interests.
  • Active, responsive team that engages with users and solicits feedback.
Cons
  • Privacy concerns around data collection and verification (selfie/ID) with data persistence.
  • Verification gating that limits who can interact or post.
  • Pronoun/gender inclusivity limitations for nonbinary or diverse gender identities.
  • Occasional performance issues (crashes, slow UI, glitches).

I saw this app on Instagram and thought it would be a nice alternative. Unfortunately you need to take a selfie of yourself in order to verify your account, and only a verified account can actually interact with other users and make public posts. It doesn’t matter if they say “Don’t worry, we’ll delete your data”, the data is always there. That’s been proven with the tea app and Discord being hacked. This is why Face ID or age verification is so dangerous. Tell your governments that this is dangerous. I will not give any of that info away. The app also crashed in the first fifteen minutes of me using it. I deleted my account and the app.

I wish this app had a feature to report a certain posts. People are defending ice on this app, defending fascism. What is this app or company doing about that? Are you OK with fascism on your page? Absolutely vile.
