Features & Capabilities

Gradescope Mobile lets students submit assignments from their phones. After signing in, you can view Courses and Not Submitted items, upload a file or scan pages with your iPhone camera, and submit. For templated submissions, you’re done; for variable-length tasks, you can assign pages to map your answers to each question.

Note: In the initial V1 release, advanced features like viewing feedback and submitting timed, programming, or online assignments will use the mobile website. Future updates will bring more mobile functionality.

User Reviews

Overall, reviewers say Gradescope on iOS struggles with login friction, poor in-app functionality, and reliability issues. The app largely acts as a web wrapper, forcing most tasks to the browser and often requiring repetitive logins or Safari redirects. Some positives include a strong mobile scanner and potential for instructors to save time on grading, but core features like viewing PDFs/grade feedback, navigation, and full instructor access are limited or missing, leading to mixed or negative impressions.
Pros
  • Mobile document scanning is fast and reportedly better than some alternatives.
  • For instructors, the app can significantly reduce grading time and help provide feedback.
  • Can submit certain file types on mobile (e.g., Java and C++ files) when used for mobile submissions.
Cons
  • Requires signing in every time with 2FA; no auto-login, causing major friction.
  • Largely a web wrapper; many actions redirect to the website or Safari and lack core in-app functionality.
  • Unreliable at times with outages or site downtime affecting access.
  • Not intuitive or stable; bugs like scrambled photo order and generally poor UX.
  • Instructor experience is limited (shows only student courses and not instructor classes).

Having an app in 2026 that automatically signs you out immediately after you close the app is ridiculous. Get up to date with literally every productivity mobile app. People have been saying this since February, get it together lazy bones.

You have to search for your school twice just to login, and it doesn’t even support all of the features of the web app, like viewing all details of a graded submission.

Barely had native code and is just a webpage with low optimizations
