User Reviews

Users praise FranklinWH for strong energy analytics and hardware integration, plus long-term performance tracking. However, updates frequently lock features, data can be unreliable or misreported, and performance can be slow. Major UI changes hinder readability, and the lack of iPad/Mac/web apps and HomeKit support limits automation. Overall, the app is valuable when working but often falls short due to updates and reliability issues.
Pros
  • Rich energy analytics: battery status, solar generation and consumption, with long-term performance history.
  • Good integration with Franklin hardware (aGate and aPower) and the solar setup.
  • Useful longitudinal performance tracking across days, months, and years.
  • Solid functionality and information quality when the system is healthy.
  • Updates and bug fixes have addressed issues (e.g., data-saving bug fixed).
Cons
  • Updates frequently lock or remove features, reducing homeowner control.
  • Data accuracy and reliability issues (misreported solar production, outages that aren’t real, duplicate event entries).
  • Performance and reliability problems (slow initial loads, need to refresh the screen, syncing issues).
  • New UI/UX changes in major updates (2.0) are harder to read and less intuitive.
  • Lack of cross-platform/app integrations (no iPad/Mac/web app, limited HomeKit support).

FranklinWH unit works well. Except, I just discovered features that I used to be able to use, are now locked out ( grid import rate). I can’t trust Franklin not to diminish what I bought and paid for. I’ll see about removing network connectivity, and only connect directly to the unit via Bluetooth.

While the app is great when it is working. I need to constantly refresh the Home Screen to see real time data. I have found that I need to scroll thru all the uttons and then back to the home screen and hope it is working. This can take up to a minute and not very convenient

The app gives you good reporting. The joy ends there. As a homeowner I want to own my system, Franklin doesn’t believe in that. The configuration of the system has many aspects the require you to pay one of their people to configure. Additionally Franklin is constantly removing features or locking homeowners out of control. What you were able to control yesterday may or may not be available tomorrow. The only fix, pay an installer to adjust a setting you may have had control over just days before.
