Features & Capabilities

Circle of Fifths is a Chrome extension that visualizes the circle of fifths to help you understand the 12 keys of the chromatic scale. It uses color coding to show relationships between major, minor, and diminished keys, and it displays the key signature and triad for each key. The extension also provides a sounded chord or arpeggio for every key, with a mute/unmute toggle for quick practice and experimentation.

Other features include locking the circle to the currently selected key, a tappable legend indicating the degree of each key in the active group, and several color schemes. The UI follows modern Material Design guidelines for a clean, responsive experience. Whether you’re learning theory, composing, or performing, this tool makes it easier to visualize modulation and chord progressions. I hope you enjoy using this circle of fifths app as much as I enjoyed making it! Have fun! - Josh

User Reviews

Users praise Circle of Fifths for being easy to use, educational, and free, with strong visuals and offline access. It’s valued as a focused tool for learning chord relationships. Common criticisms point to instrument limitations (piano-only) and requests for more features (testing, voicings, presets). Overall, it’s a highly recommended quick-reference learning app with room to expand sound options and functionality.

This is how educational/utility apps should be. Super easy to use, deep enough settings to get what you need, runs smoothly, and no ads

This is such a useful app, so easy to just play around with key modulation ideas and your understanding of the circle of fifths

This is a great app. Easy to use. It would be even better if you could choose to change all of the Flat Major Chords to Sharps. Currently you can only choose making G flat into F sharp. And if they could add a testing feature, it would facilitate one’s memorizing of the circle.
