User Reviews

Pros and cons derived from user reviews show Obsidian as a powerful, flexible PKM tool that shines offline, respects user ownership, and offers deep features via plugins, backlinks, and graph view. It supports cross-platform use and syncing and is valued for privacy and customization. However, reviewers frequently report serious iOS instability (long plugin loading times, indexing delays, black screens), a mobile experience that lags the desktop, limited mobile UI customization, and vault/storage issues (iCloud connectivity and vault detection). Overall, strong depth comes with notable mobile reliability and UX drawbacks.
Pros
  • Powerful, extensible feature set via plugins, backlinks, graph view, and templates.
  • Works offline and gives users ownership and privacy over their notes.
  • Flexible for simple notes or building a comprehensive personal knowledge system.
  • Cross-platform support and syncing across devices (with Obsidian Sync or other methods).
  • Not AI-driven by default; privacy-focused; open to AI via plugins.
Cons
  • iOS instability: frequent plugin loading loops, long indexing times, and occasional black screens.
  • Mobile UX lags behind the desktop; interface is heavy and not as intuitive on iPhone.
  • Limited mobile UI customization (e.g., default toolbar cannot be customized; left sidebar width not adjustable).
  • Vault/storage integration issues, including iCloud vault accessibility and vault detection problems.
  • Additional reliability/polish concerns such as share sheet interruptions and occasional need to reinstall to fix issues.

The title’s not a joke. Currently, I’m using obsidian to plan and write my novel (yes, inside obsidian!), manage long-term work projects, budget & track finances, and study blender. If it involves information, notes, data, studying, mood boards—you name it, there are plugins to shape this app into virtually anything. Sync is fairly cheap too, and I am happy to support the developer. 10/10, a software project that restores my faith in human ingenuity.

I can’t tell you how good this app is. Over 3 WEEKS I cured my depression. I wish I could give a hug to the creator.
