Give Us The Floor: Group Chat

LGBTQ Mental Health Support

Features & Capabilities

Give Us The Floor: Group Chat is a safe, anonymous support space for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth ages 13–24. It connects peers in a nonprofit environment, offering 25+ community-wide channels covering serious topics like body image, mental health, discrimination, and anxiety, along with lighter content such as pets and memes.

Participants can join focused small groups of up to 20 youths within two years of age, led by trained youth facilitators. You can become a certified Youth Facilitator and earn community service hours after active participation. The platform has operated as a nonprofit since 2015; signup requires a phone number and zip code for human verification and generalized statistics for funding, but personal data is not shared with third parties. This is a support space, not dating, with clear rules to ensure a welcoming environment for allies and to keep it free from queer or transphobia and discrimination.

User Reviews

Users largely praise the app for its supportive, safe teen community and the therapist-like space it provides. However, they repeatedly report onboarding/sign-in issues, bugs, and unstable performance. The design is seen as overly restrictive (one group per person, inactivity removals), with concerns about moderation and privacy (monitoring, one-on-one chat limits). Notification/verification friction and lack of alternative login options add to the frustration. Overall, the concept is valued, but execution and stability need substantial improvement.
Pros
  • Very supportive and friendly teen community that helps people feel understood
  • Safe, moderated space with adult supervision and safety rules that protect members
  • Global reach allows teens to connect with peers from around the world in a non-judgmental environment
  • App serves as a meaningful platform for mental health support and sharing experiences
  • Opportunity to contribute as a chat facilitator and earn service hours (mentioned by some users)
Cons
  • Onboarding and login issues: sign-up failures, missing verification codes, and inability to sign in without a phone number
  • Ongoing bugs and stability problems: string type errors, blank blue screens, laggy servers, and lost conversations
  • Restrictive group model: only one small group per person, with inactivity-based removals and difficulty switching groups
  • Moderation/privacy concerns: perceived over-monitoring, one-on-one chat restrictions, and questions about staff responsiveness
  • Notification and verification nuisance: persistent verification requirements and non-turn-off-able text notifications

Shipping broken. Can’t sign up. Please test your app before you ship it to the public and stop vibe coding slop.

I had the app for a while and I loved it but I accidentally left my group chat and I sent a message to the support line. When they said they added me back it broke the app and said something was wrong with the string type. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it and it was still broken.

I really like this app and have already started to make new friends! It’s really good and has good spaces for venting. However, I do think it could use some change. For one, it won’t let people reply to each other, nor will it let us see if someone is typing. Which caused problems for me immediately right off the bat when talking to new people. The app is structured strangely and is kinda dark, it feels sorta overwhelming and not very positive by appearance.
