User Reviews

Users praise the clean, fast UI and generally strong translations, with helpful alternative phrasing. Recurrent downsides include inconsistent accuracy and language detection (notably French tense issues), slower performance after updates, and billing problems (unexpected charges, upgrade lockouts). Other recurring issues include crashes or camera text failures and subpar voice playback. Overall, DeepL Translate is valued for ease of use and core translation quality, but users frequently report stability, pricing, and some language-specific accuracy concerns that hinder regular use.
Pros
  • Clean, fast, uncluttered UI with a simple, quick workflow (paste text, get translation).
  • Translations are often high quality and natural sounding, with some languages highlighted as accurate.
  • Useful alternatives/phrasing feature (alternatives button) to refine wordings and options.
  • Generally dependable core translator experience that users rely on for everyday use.
Cons
  • Inconsistent translation accuracy and language detection, including French tense errors (e.g., misrendering tense) and autodetect selecting the wrong language.
  • Slower performance and lag after updates, with automatic language detection causing delays.
  • Billing/subscription problems, such as unexpected charges and upgrade-related access issues.
  • Reliability glitches and crashes (e.g., launch crashes), camera translation failures, and occasional translation breakdowns.
  • Poor audio pronunciation quality (robotic voice, too fast/low volume).
Recent reviews
Randomly mispronounces spanish words. Separately, first syllable gets cut off if you use a bluetooth speaker. Lastly, audio quality is generally poor.

On Android the speed works fine but on iOS it’s not even usable. The ”normal” 1 voice speed is super slow. The .75 speed is extremely slow. The .5 speed is simply never used by anyone I’m sure. And the only option to faster that “normal” (too slow to even use hardly), is the 1.25 speed which is faster than an auctioneer. Please speed up the “normal” speed to a natural speed. Brownie points for changing to the robot voice too. Thank you!!
