User Reviews

Users largely praise Hyrule Compendium as a very useful Zelda companion for BoTW and TotK, helping players locate creatures, learn details, and progress. However, the app is hampered by a pay-to-unlock model that many find unclear and off-putting, with content gated behind per-section charges. Accumulated complaints also include incomplete or inaccurate data, missing items, and occasional purchase issues. Some UI readability problems were noted. Overall, it offers good value at 99 cents for many users, but monetization friction and data quality concerns limit its appeal.
Pros
  • Extremely useful companion for BoTW and TotK, helping players progress and learn about monsters, items, and gameplay.
  • Widely praised by players of varying experience, from newcomers to veterans.
  • Low cost and ad-free experience; perceived good value at 99 cents.
  • Works across multiple games (BoTW and TotK), offering cross-title reference.
  • Helpful for beginners learning game mechanics and basics of the compendium.
Cons
  • Pay-to-unlock model with per-section charges and unclear upfront pricing, leading to a sense of hidden costs.
  • Content is incomplete or inaccurate, with missing items and inconsistent data.
  • Purchase issues and payment failures reported by users (troubles acquiring unlocks).
  • UI readability/formatting problems on smaller screens (text truncation and display issues).
  • Content gating limits access to information and can feel frustrating since only a portion is available without paying.

Has potential to be a good app but I find the pay to unlock sections, not the entire guide, is scummy. There’s nowhere that says that and I had to see it in a review.
