User Reviews

Users praise Basmo for its clean, organized UI and the way it helps them track reading time, progress, and owned books. The app also offers note-taking, customizable covers, and an AI chat feature that provides questions or insights. However, reviews repeatedly complain about a paid subscription gate for core features, limited social/sharing options, and problematic Kindle syncing. Other frequent drawbacks include missing to-read/format categorization, UI confusion, and reliability issues. Basmo is appealing for diligent trackers but needs smoother integrations and feature parity.
Pros
  • Simple, organized UI that makes tracking reading easy.
  • Encourages reading and habit formation through timers and notes.
  • Helpful features for tracking reading time and progress.
  • Helps manage owned books and avoid duplicate purchases.
  • AI features and note-taking capabilities show promise for deeper insights.
Cons
  • Heavy reliance on paid subscription for core features; constant prompts to upgrade.
• Limited social/sharing options: cannot invite/share with friends or connect Goodreads.
  • Kindle integration and sync issues: highlights don't transfer; duplicates can appear.
  • Missing essential organization tools: no to-read/owned tagging, no format type (ebook/audiobook/hardcover), no option to start a second reading.
  • Not user-friendly or consistently intuitive, with occasional bugs and a dated feel.

I was able to log about seven different times of reading before it would no longer let me continue without subscribing. If you actually want to use this app to track how long you’re reading, I would not recommend this app. I would understand if it limited the amount of times you could log throughout the day but after seven sessions, it would not let me do anything without giving them money.

I used to love basmo. I really liked all the categories you could put the books in, but something is missing. I cannot put something into already read and to be read. I know it sounds silly, but I want a tbr list for the books I have audiobooked and now want to physically read. It also does not have a section on the book itself to identify whether it’s an ebook, audiobook, hardcover, or softcover. I do not have premium, so I have not seen the full extent of the app, but there is also no second read feature or the option to bypass the start date.

I’ve been using this app for almost 4 years now to track my books. I love it. But now I’m trying to share and track my books with others and I can’t seem to add friends to my app, and I’ve messaged the Basmo team with no response or assistance. Disappointing. Makes me not want to share this app with others, or find a new one completely!!
