User Reviews

Ekko is praised for private, low-pressure photo sharing via a widget that feels like messaging with close friends or family, offering a simple, privacy-centered alternative to traditional social apps. However, users repeatedly cite a 24-hour photo limit with no long-term history, widget-refresh and stability issues, and a privacy/name fix need. There is also a strong call for multimedia/history features (videos, voice notes) and a more reliable history view. Overall, a strong concept with notable usability drawbacks and feature requests.
Pros
  • Private, low-pressure photo sharing that feels more like a personal message than a public post.
  • Widget-based viewing keeps updates intimate and makes it easy to stay connected with close friends and family.
  • Easy to use and well-suited for couples and families, offering a simple way to share moments without social-media pressure.
  • The concept stands out as a unique niche and is appreciated for its privacy-focused approach.
  • Users report meaningful, everyday use that helps maintain connections even when apart.
Cons
  • Photos disappear after 24 hours; lack of long-term memory/history makes it hard to preserve memories.
  • Widget does not auto-update; you must open the app to see new photos, reducing immediacy.
  • Stability/UX issues such as group names duplicating or changing, and photos duplicating or other widget glitches.
  • Inability to change display name (deadname) due to a greyed-out name field, raising privacy/identity concerns.
  • Missing multimedia/history features (e.g., video/audio support and cycling through history) and a robust history view.

I like it though but it can be better… it’s quite plain right now if you guys add videos and audios it’d make it so much better(free version) not as a premium. It should be offered you’d get more reviews bigger audiences —- Response: I actually think it wouldn’t be like Snapchat at all. We’ve been using this app as a way to show each other photos and leave each other messages without the need to directly message one another between a friend and I. Also broke that awkward ice or wanting to say something without the pressure of a text, especially if it was more sentimental. It’s private, we can go about our day and still update each other. I found it useful when I had graduated and couldn’t spend time with them from my schedule. It was easy, still allowed connection, and the widget always felt like a message than a “post”. It wasn’t an album which wouldve been a hassle, it wasn’t like BeReal where there’s not as much privacy (still similar) but yet somewhat completely different and unique. This app stands out because you can’t find another for it. I have Snapchat and to be frank, I rather this. My reason behind saying this is because I think adding videos and audios would make it even more personal. Sometimes pictures don’t capture everything a short clip, a voice note, can make it feel more alive, like you’re really sharing a moment instead of just an image. It would also make it feel more interactive without breaking that quiet, simple connection the app already has. Which was the point (for the pair audience). What I really love is that it doesn’t pressure you to “perform” the way social media does. It’s not about likes, streaks, or filters just genuine updates that feel intentional. Even when life gets busy, it’s a small, meaningful way to stay in touch. It got me through high school and after that to maintain my bond with my friend when we were separate. I’m 21 now and it was honestly the only way we are able to have gotten closer now. And I remember wishing that we could leave voice messages to upload, or videos. That’s one thing where it felt very limited in. Unfortunately there are no similar apps like this so I thought to just suggest it. Unlike some people I actually like that the story disappears. I’m sure some people are also using it for their partners which makes them feel more secure in the privacy.

I primarily use this app to send photos between my gf and I. It’s wonderful! I haven’t tried the group option but I’m optimistic for sure!
