User Reviews

User reviews largely condemn the app for a difficult, non-intuitive UI, reliability problems, and inconsistent color libraries. While some users praise fast scans and color matching that is close enough for DIY painting, multiple reports cite crashes, stuck updates, and persistent Bluetooth pairing failures. A common frustration is the loss of cross-brand color matching in favor of single-brand results, plus challenging library management and limited export options. Overall, the app is useful for basic color checks for DIY tasks, but stability, UI, and library accuracy need significant improvements.
Pros
  • Supports multiple scans to average colors for improved accuracy.
  • Color matches are close and practically useful for painting and color matching tasks.
  • Fast per-swatch scanning that enables quick color checks (e.g., 16 swatches in minutes).
  • Affordable and suitable for DIY/home projects.
Cons
  • Poor UI/UX with a steep learning curve and non-standard iOS design conventions; no landscape support on iPad.
  • Inconsistent or limited color libraries; cannot view matches across multiple brands; single-brand results reduce usefulness.
  • Stability and performance issues: crashes after updates, app stuck on downloading paint database, or failing to boot.
  • Bluetooth connectivity and device pairing problems with Nix devices; frequent disconnects or pairing errors.
  • Library management and account issues: difficult to save/export colors, restricted custom libraries, Pantone access problems, and sign-up limitations.
Recent reviews
The old NIX apps allowed you to choose multiple color vendors and would show excellent and good matches to multiple vendors. The new one only shows good matches to a single vendor, making it not nearly as helpful.

I was able to use my Nix mini 2 exactly one time. Then the app can no longer connect even after many many hours of charging. Contacted technical support. My device is charged, it shows up in Bluetooth, but Pair on the app it gives an error.
