User Reviews

Air Quality Reader is praised for its widget support, map-based sensor viewing, ad-free simplicity, and years of usefulness, but facing widespread concerns about stale or missing data, discontinued data feeds, perceived developer abandonment, and inconsistent readings compared with PurpleAir’s data.
Pros
  • Widget support for quick-glance data (home screen/widget).
  • Map-based view of nearby PurpleAir sensors using Apple Maps.
  • Ad-free, simple, no-strings-attached user experience.
  • Long-standing usefulness; trusted by users for years.
Cons
  • Data is stale and not updated for months/years.
  • Data feeds appear to have stopped; current data is unavailable.
  • Developer appears inactive/abandoned (little to no responses on GitHub).
  • Inconsistent or inaccurate readings compared with PurpleAir's site data.
  • Limited sensor visibility (often only outdoor sensors show; indoor sensors not reliably displayed).
Recent reviews
Sometime in the past 3 years this app completely stopped updating its air quality data. This makes this app basically entirely useless.

This app was awesome but unfortunately it stopped working as of October 2025, the data is no longer updated from PurpleAir.
by SF*****, 2026-02-05

The data shown by the app is not current. It shows all green while Purple Air’s own map shows red and orange.
