Features & Capabilities

MiniMed Mobile US lets you view insulin pump and CGM data on Apple Watch and iPhone, providing a discreet secondary display to review glucose trends and history for the MiniMed 780G system.

Automatic uploads to CareLink simplify sharing with care partners. Please note this app is intended as a secondary monitor and not a substitute for real-time pump/CGM data on the primary device; requires a prescription and is for Type 1 diabetes in users aged 7 and older. Privacy and security are important—consult Medtronic support for assistance.

User Reviews

Users repeatedly report major reliability problems with MiniMed Mobile US: the app frequently fails to connect or stay paired with the insulin pump and CGM, often after updates. Crashes on launch or during use are common, with many users unable to access data or control devices. Data upload to CareLink is unreliable, and some users cannot view or share data. Some positive notes mention that the app provides CareLink auto-upload and has a watch app, but these do not offset ongoing connectivity and stability issues. Support experiences vary, with long hold times.
Pros
  • CareLink auto-upload is appreciated by some users.
  • Watch app availability is noted positively by some users.
  • Ability to share data with family members using the app is mentioned positively by at least one user.
Cons
  • Frequent connectivity issues between the app and pump/CGM, including pairing failures and dropped connections.
  • Crashes on launch or during use are common, making the app unreliable.
  • Updates frequently break connectivity or cause instability, reverting to worse performance.
  • Data upload to CareLink is unreliable or not possible for some users, hindering data sharing with doctors.
  • Limited pump control within the app (no basal/bolus adjustments; alarms not fully manageable) and overall limited functionality.

Having a mandatory app that doesn’t even work or connect appropriately is absolutely insane

It is incredible—unbelievable—how much money Medtronics makes to have a system prone to so many issues. I’m currently attempting to open the app and it continually crashes—won’t open at all, just a blue Medtronic loading screen until it returns to my Home Screen. Checked for updates, restarted my phone, will be spending a large chunk of my limited free time now on the phone with 24-hour helpline, and will hear minuets worth of legal jargon to protect themselves before they will attempt to help me fix the problem. I am 1 hour away from needing to start a new Instinct sensor. The app is not functioning after several minutes of trouble shooting. This app is absolutely essential in order to use the instinct sensors. I can’t see my numbers. I don’t have an entire back-up sensor system. So at BEST I’m now back in 20 years to getting one number every time I stick my finger. Hoping I’m gauging the trends right, and hoping I have a good enough supply of test strips until… the issue is resolved? Until I have a chance to sit on the phone for a half hour? Until Medtronics starts to care as much about customer health as they do money. This is absolutely unacceptable, and truly a shame. There must be some kind of system in place with zero-failure to connect new instinct sensors to the insulin pump.

My pump stopped connecting to my phone. The directions on how to reconnect aren’t working on my phone. I called the help desk yesterday and waited on the phone for over 5 hours and still no contact. I finally hung up to go to bed. I have had Minimed pumps for 22 years and have loved the help desk. But now I can’t even get in, let alone talk to someone. Did they fire all those amazing people?
